How to Use Licorice Root? The licorice plant scientifically known as Glycyrrhiza Glabra is from the family Fabaceae. It can reach heights of 1-2 meters. Licorice plant’s root is mostly employed for medicinal purposes and it is used in beverages for adding flavours. It thrives in warm, dry climates and is frequently found in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

It has been used for a long time to treat a wide variety of illnesses and also to promote good health. Licorice root contains a variety of different minerals, that includes phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iron, beta-carotene, and vitamin E. Interestingly there are many ways to use licorice root so that we will get all its various benefits.

How to Use Licorice Root?

  • Dental hygiene: Add half a teaspoon of this powder to one glass of water to stop gum bleeding, get rid of tooth stains, and also to freshen your breath. Then boil it thoroughly until the water content is cut in half, keep it in your mouth for 30 seconds, and then spit it out.
  • Skincare: Apply licorice root powder to the face after mixing it with curd or milk or rosewater to get rid of skin tags and acne and to also achieve glowing skin. Wash it off 10 to 20 minutes later.
  • Haircare: 50 grams of licorice root powder are added to 500 grams of heated coconut oil. Mix it well without burning. Apply it to the hair after filtering it once it has cooled.
  • To cure ulcers and burning sensations: Add a pinch of turmeric powder and 1/4 teaspoon of licorice root powder to a half glass of water. Have it early in the morning.
  • To prevent hoarseness of voice: Mix 1/4 teaspoon of licorice root powder and 1/2 teaspoon of honey and make it into a paste. Eat this slowly in the morning.
  • For sore throat: Chewing this root helps to soothe sore throats.
  • To get rid off cold: Add 1/4 teaspoon of licorice root, 2 panikoorka leaves (Plectranthus Amboinicus), and a small piece of ginger to a glass of water. Boil it until the water content is cut in half. Drink this 2-3 times per day.
  • Tan removal: Add one teaspoon of turmeric powder and 3-4 teaspoons of curd to 3 teaspoons of powdered licorice root. Then combine it until a fine paste is formed. Apply this to freshly washed skin, then wait 15 to 20 minutes. Scrub it after that, and then wash it.

Note:

  • Consult your doctor before eating licorice root to ensure that it is appropriate for you.
  • Over-use of licorice can cause liver and kidney damage, as well as bloating and water retention.
  • Avoid eating licorice if you have breast cancer, are being pregnant or breastfeeding, or are on medicine for serious medical conditions.
  • For several weeks, consuming 5 grams or more of licorice daily can have serious negative effects, including heart attacks.
