Soybeans are a legume which are grown largely in Asia and South and North America. Western countries consume more processed versions of it, whereas Asian countries eat them whole.
Some popular soybean products are tofu, soy sauce and soy milk.
- Rich in Protein: Soybeans are one of the best sources of protein. One cup of boiled soybeans contain about 29 grams of protein. Even though it contains a lot of protein, the quality of it is not as good as animal-based sources.
- Low in Carbs: Whole soybeans have a low glycemic index, which means the blood sugar level doesn’t rise much after its consumption. This makes it apt for people with diabetes.
- Low in Saturated Fats: Saturated fats may increase LDL cholesterol levels, which may affect heart health negatively. Soybean oil only has about 16 grams of saturated fats per 100 grams, which makes it a healthier fat than many other oils.
- May Help in Relieving Sleeping Disorders: Soybeans are rich in magnesium, which may help in improving the quality and duration of sleep.
- Soybeans May Help in Improving and Maintaining Bone Health: Since soybeans are rich in several minerals like calcium, magnesium and zinc. These minerals play a role in maintaining healthy bones. Consuming it on a daily basis may help in preventing osteoporosis.
- Rich in Fibre: There is about 6 grams of fibre per 100 grams of boiled soybean, which makes it a good source of fibre. Fibre is good for your gut health. It helps in improving digestion and preventing constipation
Soybeans are a great plant-based source of protein and fibre. Since they are processed in several forms, it is very easy to incorporate them into your diet.
